Professor Alain Astier carried out his pharmacy studies (Pharm D) in 1972 at the University of Paris V René Descartes. He earned his PhD in organic and structural chemistry in 1976 at the Paris XI University, France. He was also graduated in cellular pharmacology (Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes; Paris, 1984) and receiving his habituation for using radioactivity in biology in 1986, (CEA, Orsay, France). He has been Assistant professor in pharmaceutical chemistry from 1977-1981, Faculty of Pharmacy, Paris XI University.

He was Professor of Clinical Pharmacy and Biotechnics (University of Lorraine) from 1997 to 2010 and, from 1977 to 2017, he was Head of the department of Pharmacy, Henri Mondor University Hospital (School of Medicine, Paris XII University. He has funded in 2002 at the University of Nancy, one of the first University Diploma in Oncology Pharmacy in France and he is regular teacher in the European Masterclass in Oncology Pharmacy organized since 10 years by the European Society of Oncology Pharmacy (ESOP) and ESO (European School of Oncology).

Retreated from the hospital, he is currently President DIrector of Biotopic Pharmaceuticals, a startup devoted to teaching and consulting in drug formulation and analytical chemistry.

He is member of the French Academy of Pharmacy, Associate member of the Royal Academy of Medicine of Belgium and he has been laureated of the prestigious Galien Prize of pharmaceutical research in 2001 for its work on fomepizole, as antidote of ethylene glycol and methanol poisoning.

The research interests of Professor Astier include
– Experimental and clinical pharmacology and pharmacokinetics of anticancer especially organoarsenicals and immunosuppressive drugs
– New formulations, analysis and stability of anticancer drugs especially monoclonal antibodies and biosimilars.

Until now, Professor Astier has signed more than 220 research papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and more than 360 communications in scientific congresses. He directed also more than 120 university diplomas (Master, Pharm D, PhD). He has been member of numerous scientific committees and chairman in several international congresses organized by national or international societies such as the European Society of Clinical Pharmacy (ESCP), ESOP or ECCO, and of several national level commissions such as INCa (Institut National du Cancer) and French Drug Agency (ANSM).

Professor Astier is Vice-President of the ESOP and Vice-President of the French Society of Oncology Pharmacy (SFPO) since 2001. He is member of the editorial board of several journals such as Journal of Oncology Geriatric (JOG) or GaBi Journal. He is Editor-in-Chief of the Annales Pharmaceutiques Francaises, official journal of the French Academy of Pharmacy and of the European Journal Oncology Pharmacy (EJOP), journal of the ESOP.
